On writetodone.com, Dr. John Yeoman writes tips on creating Deep Structure in short stories. This was a nice article that gives tips and describes why the tips create better stories.
He describes ‘Deep Structure’ as the depth the reader feels in a story, the additional information and perspective that a reader can get from a story. He gives three really nice tips, and goes into a lot of detail on the tips. It’s a must read.
He says you must give your story a sense of unity, you could echo an emblem, and that you could weave in a sub-plot, all to help add in deep structure.
